Zhambyl — The Homer of the Kazakh Steppe

Today, Kyzylorda Open University hosted a literary hour dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet Zhambyl Zhabayev — an outstanding master of epic poetry and the art of aytys. The event, organized by the university library, brought together students from groups BD-25-1 and BD-24-1 to explore the life and work of this legendary poet.

Participants learned what makes Zhambyl Zhabayev unique: his virtuosity in poetry, mastery in poetic duels (aytys), and talent for spontaneous poetic improvisation. Special attention was given to how his legacy inspires young people and fosters interest in national literature.

Students Aigerim Zhalgasbekova, Akdiyar Serikkizy, and Nazerke Esentugel read excerpts from Zhambyl’s poems, conveying the depth of his thoughts and the spiritual richness of his work. Their vivid and emotional performances added a special color to the event, making it truly lively and engaging.

The event concluded with a book exhibition titled “Witness of Two Centuries — the Great Zhambyl”, where attendees explored the poet’s heritage and learned about his contribution to Kazakh culture and literature. The event served as a reminder that Zhambyl Zhabayev’s life and work are not only part of history but also a source of spiritual inspiration for the younger generation, exemplifying loyalty to national values.
